To teach English (ESOL) in Ireland in an approved School you must have a primary degree in addition to a recognised TEFL Certificate.
What does the course cover?
CELTA topics cover teaching and learning, language awareness, language skills, planning and resources, and developing teaching skills.
There's no exam – you're mainly assessed through teaching practice. You will teach for a total of six hours, working with classes at two levels of ability. You also do four written assignments. Your final assessment will be based on your performance during the 6 hours and in your written assignments.
You have a lot of flexibility with CELTA. You can choose to take your course:
- full-time at our Dublin CELTA centre – over 4 weeks
- 120 + Hours of face-to-face tuition
- at least 6 hours of teaching practice
- four written assignments
- continual assessment
