When can I start my course?

A.

You can start your course any Monday throughout the year except on Bank / Public Holidays.

How many students are in each class?

A.

There is a maximum of 15 students per class as per the Irish Department of Education recommendations.

Will I be given a test before I enroll in the School?

A.

All new students must complete a short assessment test before being accepted in the School. The test is simply to help us determine your current level of English so that we can place you in the correct class. We have classes for all levels of English. On commencement of a course all your language skills will be re-assessed by your teacher to ensure that you have been placed in the right level. Afterwards your progress will be monitored weekly.

Our assessment test is free of charge and there is no obligation on you to enroll in the school afterwards.

How do I know my Teacher will be good?

A.

All the teachers at The English Academy are very experienced fully qualified EFL teachers with an average of over 15 years experience. All our teachers are native speakers. In addition our teachers are trained Cambridge CELTA or DELTA trained. Most are also trained Cambridge examiners. So overall you can rest assured that you will receive the best possible tuition available in Ireland today.

Will I get a certificate at the end of my course?

A.

Yes. The Certificate will give you a grade in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) – an internationally recognized grading system. This means that if you decide to continue your English studies after going home your local English Academy will immediately know what level to place you at.

The English Academy also gives you the opportunity to take an University of Cambridge English Certificate in the School as we are an official Cambridge examination centre for popular exams such as PET, FCE, CAE, CPE.

Cambridge Certificates are recognised around the world (over 130 countries) by thousands of employers, universities (over 20,000) and government ministries as proof of ability to use English.

These certificates never expire, and will not need to be renewed — they are an achievement for life. They make a difference!

Is there internet access available for students?

A.

Yes. There is free WiFi network throughout the The English Academy School for students with their own laptop or personal computers. In addition we have a computer area with 16 computers available for students to use free of charge.

Can I speak my own language in class?

A.

No, we only allow English in the classroom. It is for your benefit. But do not worry we have classes for all levels and the teachers are very friendly and experienced in case you are nervous or shy.

The majority of our students come from Europe but we can students from virtually every country in the World. With such a mix of nationalities, our lessons are always conducted in English and students are only allowed to speak English in the class.

Can The English Academy arrange accommodation for me?

A.

Yes, subject to availability we can organize hostel, host family, Student residence or hotel accommodation for you. Check out our accommodation section of the website or email us for more information.

When is full payment due?

A.

Full payment is due before you commence your course. Due to demand it is always advisable to book well in advance.

Do you accept credit cards?

A.

Yes we accept all major credit and debit cards. We do not charge any extra fee for payment by credit card.

What other ways can I pay for my course?

A.

You can pay by bank transfer, credit card, debit card or if you (or a friend) lives in Dublin you can pay by cash.

Do you charge registration fees?

A.

We do not charge registration fees. In fact we do not charge any extra fees on top of our course fees.

Do we get a coursebook?

A.

Yes, all our courses follow course books. It is our policy that all students have a book. To help keep costs down, we will loan you books. For this we will ask for a €30 security deposit on commencement but we will return the €30 at the end of your course when you return the books in good condition. Alternatively you can purchase books from us.

Can I change the time of my class?

A.

If you need to change the time of your class, for example if you get a new job, you can apply to change time at reception. We understand that you need to work to help pay for your studies and living expenses whlist in Ireland so generally there is on problem moving. However at the busiest times of year you may have to wait for a place to become available as (for your benefit) there a maximum of 15 students permitted in any class.

Please note there are stricter restrictions on non-EEA students ability to move times. Please contact reception for a full explanation of up to date policy.

What can the reception staff help me with?

A.

All our reception staff have grown up in Dublin. They can help you with any issue or problem you face during your stay in Ireland no matter how trivial. Just ask!

In Particular we can help you with:

- A PPS (social security number)

- An Irish Bank account

- A Student card (giving transport discounts)

- Immigration issues

- Accommodation

- Government agencies

- Advice on jobs and your entitlements
